NEWSPAPER LONGITUDE AND LATITUDE
A good game to work on finding location using
latitude and longitude, but also to for the students to learn how to use
an atlas and give them a general introduction to the countries and capitals
of the world as well as a notion of where things are happening in the world
today.

In this activity, the teacher will divide the students into groups of three
to four. The teacher will then give each group either a globe or
an atlas.
-
The teacher will then read various articles in the newspaper that name
various countries. The groups will then search their globes or atlases
for the country or countries that were given and give the longitude and
latitude of its capital.
-
This could be done with the states and capitals as well.
Note: the students will probably not be able to give the exact latitude
and longitude, but they should be in the general vicinity. A couple
degrees here or there should be enough.
