HISTORY 121
WESTERN CIVILIZATION TO 1600
Online Texts

The "public domain" translations available on the internet are sometimes excellent, but they are often rather dated.  If you struggle with any of these editions, buy the book at the bookstore or check out a library copy. If you find a better or easier to read translation online, let me know.  Five points extra credit for finding a better source than those I have listed here!  There is a good translation of The Epic of Gilgamesh online, but most students will find this far more difficult than the Nancy Sanders translation.

By the way, on some quizzes I give students the option of creating a video rather than taking a traditional approach.  Here's a particularly good approach to an assignment I gave on Antigone.

THE BIBLE
ANTIGONE (Sophocles)
TROJAN WOMEN (Euripides)
APOLOGY OF SOCRATES ( Plato)
EUTHYPHRO (Plato)
THE PRINCE (Machiavelli)
